Random souvenir

Today I was reminiscing and I just had a random thought that I figured I'd put out there...

So this is from way back...

I was standing at the side of the road with my friend R and we were just both waiting for a taxi. And then this kid that we both knew just went speeding by on his motorbike.

Vroooooom!

I informed my friend that
"Eh voici C ah ce ga la il dja foule hein!"

Basically "this is 'C' and right now this guy is the man." And actually in my twisted 'teenager in Abidjan' way of seeing things. This guy was actually 'the man'. Y? because he was probably around my age so 14-15 and through some shrewd tactics, This kid actually owned a motorcycle... or even maybe two.

Which was kind of a big deal back then. Also, he was pretty good at this motorcycle stuff and was prone to performing all kinds of dangerous stunts with it especially at parties were a lot of people would just line up and watch him do his thing.

He was also a pretty nice guy. And had I guess what some people would call 'charisma'. I didn't help for him that one of my best friends went to school with him and this friend of mine basically idolized him. Everyday it was C did this C did that today.

In addition I had been at a few parties where this guy was present. And I can confirm that he was also very popular with the ladies.

Hence in my eyes too 'il dja foule'. Or 'he's the man'

And my very laid back friend R in his typical understated way of speaking made a simple but very powerful statement as a reply:

"Ah c'est vrai il dja foule.... aujourd'hui. Mais moi pour les gens comme ca je me demande toujours, oui 'il dja foule aujourd'hui mais est ce qu'il va dja foule demain'?"

or "Yeah he's the man now, but I wonder if he'll be 'the man' tomorrow"

I can proudly say that my friend actually taught me a lesson that day with that simple question. A lesson that (Thank God) stays with me to this day...

But here's is my problem and the reason why I'm posting this. It's been more than ten years since then and I am sad to say that a majority of females that I have come accross since then don't quite get this simple concept.

For them 'si tu dja foule aujourd'hui, ca suffit deja'. 'If you're the man today that's good enough.' Of course some of us men too have definitely not gotten this lesson yet...

But I feel like a lot of times, at least as far as trying to woo our charming princesses I get the impression that some us men knowingly play into this trying to be 'hot now' just because they feel like that's what's gonna work.

So ladies can you please let us know when to stop this farce?

Before us men hurt ourselves trying to do stunts on a motorcycle instead going home and doing our homework...
